color day 5: blue
cardigan- from mom's closet
dress- American Apparel
stockings- vintage
flats- UO
This dress is SO TIGHT good lord! Probably overkill with the back-seamed stockings but they were the only tights I had clean, oh well. This dress is the purest primary-color-blue I have. And I tied up this cardigan because it has a couple holes towards the bottom(sorry mom). Man, back-seamed stockings sure turn my step into a sassy stomp. Every girl should wear a pair at least once in life!

color day 4: green
cardigan- Banana Republic
dress- Jean Paul Gaultier for Target
flats- UO
oops, I got a little behind, due to a bonkers work schedule and an even more bonkers sleep schedule. I actually wore this last Saturday! It's my rockabilly mermaid dress, one of my absolute favorites. Body-hugging polka dots and lace, hellllloooo. I am in a crazy shopping mood but I can't seem to find anything I want! First world problems, yes I know. I did buy an insane romper at the thrift store the other day, I think it might be for a child. To sleep in. Ooooh well! I DO WHAT I WANT

color day 3: yellow
dress- vintage from Tigerlily Frocks
flats- Target
This magical handmade vintage dress pretty much made me feel like a disco Disney princess. I'm always a bit afraid of yellow but turns out it looks awesome with my hair/skin color. Yesterday was the last of the freakishly warm weather, I'm back to tights today! I am really enjoying wearing more color. And challenging myself! Also, HOW IS IT POSSIBLE that this fence looks 10x better than ye old brick wall that stands 2 feet away from it?? Solution to my photography problem!

color day 2: orange
dress- Old Navy
wedges- Urban Outfitters
orange is a tricky color. it can veer towards velveeta, school traffic guard vest, or, in this region of the country, UT orange. suffice it to say I don't own much orange. this peachy color is as close as I get! I hardly ever wear this dress because I feel a bit childish in florals, but this has a Monet-garden quality about the print that I really like. and it really does make me look radiantly pale: always a plus!

color day 1: red
dress- thrifted
belt- Target
boots- thrifted
I've been in a bit of a clothes rut this past week, despite the creepily beautiful weather, thus the lack of outfit posts. To pull myself out of it I've decided to challenge myself: 10 days of color! ROYGBIV plus pink, white, and black(the last two being the most important colors in my wardrobe, ha). I feel brighter already! Again, I'm dressing like a mod cartoon with my very favorite boots, but I gotta say, it's really fun. You should give it a go sometime! Tonight I'm deigning to leave my house for a show for the first time in a while. What kind of magical event could compel me to do such a thing, you ask?!? Redondo Beat at the Lamplighter, bartended by the wonderful Katherine! Hope you have a fun night too.

looks I love
My "starred items" folder in my reader can get kind of overwhelmingly full sometimes, so I decided I'll start a weekly roundup of my favorite personal/street-style looks. Here's what I found most inspiring this week!
AMAZING ombre fur at stylesightings
adorable isla with pretty much the perfect cardigan/blouse/skirt/bootie combination
coury is my pastel inspiration

isabelle is one of my very favorite bloggers. denim. mini. circle. skirt!
steffy: badass hair, awesome mary janes, best shade of lavender, topped off with a TINY BOW TIE ahhhhh!

red, wink, and blue
cardigan- My Baby Jo
dress- Forever 21
tights- ?(yes, those are tights, not my legs- thx, mgmt)
boots- given to me by Christie
Oh yeah, I bet you didn't think I could get any cheesier, did ya?? Well guess again friends! I realized that I am much more likely to take outfit photos if I'm letting myself goof off instead of attempting some Lookbook-style pouty seriousness(not that I ever tried too hard to do that!). I do love a theatrical wink, particularly when paired with the more classic pin-up style items in my wardrobe, like the '50s-tattoo-bird sweater and the boobtastic '40s-style sailor dress. I have basically been wearing a variation on this outfit for the past 3 days and I really need to vary it up. I'm thinking of a ROYGBIV week, even though honestly I don't have a clue what truly qualifies as indigo. Stay tuned!

mod candy
cardigan- Target
dress- thrifted
tights- department store in Montreal in 2004
boots- thrifted
I felt candy store bright in this outfit, compared to how I normally dress, at least! Despite the fact that my camera/the dreary weather washed me out. I feel a bit like a cartoon when I wear this dress and these boots together. Like Emma Peel dressed up for Easter!

skirt- thrifted
brogues- Target
These awkward photos are courtesy of my dad. (Thanks dad!). He was like "you're bad at posing. Turn around and say 'haaaaayyyy.'" See how that advice turned out!
I bought this sweater my first day working at Urban...it has a sheer v-back, even though it just looks like skin here! I love cutouts. You may have noticed! Anyway, speaking of Urban, gotta go there right now and attempt to avoid teal jean temptation.

brooklyn gang

These amazing photos are from New York photographer Bruce Davidson's 1959 series Brooklyn Gang, following a group of teen greasers styling themselves "the Jokers." Rarely do I see things this up my alley. The boys, the girls, the clothes, the hair, the sense of danger and badass-ery(yeah this is a term I learned while obtaining my art history degree), and the cinematic aspect of even the most mundane moments of adolescence.

You can learn & see more over at the Retronaut.

scarf(on my head)- vintage
yup. guess who's back, back again. i can't make any promises i'll be less flaky this time around, but maybe 12th time's a charm. let's see...i now work at urban outfitters and get a sweet sweet discount, and have since bought these flats(ferragamo rip-offs forever!) and the t-shirt. you know i have a soft spot for cut-outs! these photos are actually from last saturday night, when i went to a show at the magical a. schwab's general store, where my BFF works. and when i got home, a little heart had formed on the shabby blanket on my bed. a nice surprise!

Oversize Christmas Ornament
sweater- Delia's
dress- vintage
boots- Target
...or, at least that's kind of what I feel like in this get-up. I bought this sweater at the MALL earlier this week. I was trying to describe it to the salesgirl when I walked in and she was like, "oh yeah! sorry, we only have an XL left and I know you don't want that." I was like "fork it over, girl." She was so bewildered by its hugeness/how happy I seemed about it that she ran up and put a weird belt around my waist in an attempt to make me look less like I was wearing a potato sack. DO NOT TRY TO FATHOM MY CLOTHING CHOICES YOUNG LADY. Large might have been a better size than XL but I'll take what I can get when it's on clearance.

oh hay
cardigan- Zara
dress- vintage
wedges- Urban Outfitters
Hi there. It's been a while. You probably thought that I left you for good, ye of little faith! Not without good reason, I know. But I think I am ready to commit, blog. I would like you to meet my new purple cardigan. Getting a purple cardigan was one of my two goals for our epic amazing trip to Chicago(the other goal is not fit for print), and I succeeded on both counts! This $20 sweater was probably the cheapest thing at Zara. I feel slightly '80s(possibly my least favorite decade, stylistically) with the hot purple(yeah, making up my own colors now what're you gonna do) and graphic print, but I think it still works. I normally wear a belt with this dress because the cut is soooo baggy and weird, but we went to an Indian food buffet today so the belt would've popped off anyway. It's kinda late and I'm kinda full of the key lime cake I made earlier, but hopefully this is the first post again of many!

Last of the warm weather!
shirt- Urban Outfitters
skirt- vintage
wedges- Modcloth
cardigan- from my mom's closet
scarf- vintage
shorts- Urban Outfitters
wedges- Urban Outfitters
These pictures are from last Friday and Saturday, as it's now 49 degrees outside. I should mention that I am LOVING it. My furry white jacket that makes me look like a gangsta polar bear got pulled out for the first time this season yesterday, and when that thing is on you know the night's gonna be a fun one(it was; there was cosmic bowling, Spin Doctors videos, and fried cheese sticks involved).
Yes, in this second outfit I am wearing a cardigan as a top with nothing underneath. I don't know what thought process was goin on in my brain when I decided that, but thank goodness my new Urbn wedges (that I got for 50% off sale price wooo) kind of distract from the cray cray happening up top. That set of pictures is so bad that I am never gonna take any inside again, unless I get a fancy camera.
I had an interview today for a seasonal job that would probably be super fun if it happens, so fingers crossed! I don't want to say any more and jinx it.
I'm about to make a lemon pie and read a little book called Harry Potter and the motherfucking Order of the Phoenix. I should probably attempt to fit exercise somewhere into my life equation but I really don't think that's gonna happen.
